AMII & CII launch new course and exam for advisers in the health insurance sector
The new health insurance examination has been launched by the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) and Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).
The examination will cover seven key areas, namely understanding:
1. The structure of the UK healthcare insurance market
2. Key features of healthcare provision in the UK and overseas
3. Healthcare product types
4.. Different roles and responsibilities of intermediaries and providers
5. Applying risk assessment, rating and underwriting considerations
6. Applying the claims function
7. Applying legal and regulatory considerations.
When compared with the CII’s current Healthcare Products examination, the new syllabus developed with AMII offers more in depth coverage of PMI products, as well as content on new areas such as well-being, occupational health, cancer, chronic conditions, and the advice process itself, covering the roles and responsibilities of intermediaries and insurers.
The aim of the examination is to raise professional standards, improving the technical knowledge of both intermediaries and those employees of insurers who have a customer facing role, as well as giving a broader understanding of healthcare provision in the UK and the role of private healthcare.
Michael Payne, AMII's General Secretary said, "The feedback we have had from both intermediaries and providers from within the PMI industry has been extremely encouraging. We have worked very closely with the CII and both the coursework and exam are very relevant to today’s PMI market."
Steve Jenkins, Director - Financial Services Markets at the CII added, "It's vital that qualifications and professional standards keep pace with any market or product developments and changes. We've worked with leading practitioners from the PMI industry to develop this exam and coursework, and to make sure it sets a benchmark for standards of professionalism and expertise that will meet both the current and future needs of the PMI sector."
